YES, I WILL HELP CHILDREN AND FAMILIES DEVASTATED BY THE VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN TONGA
On Saturday 15 January 2022 a massive eruption rocked Hunga Ha'apai Island of Tonga, coating the main island in volcanic ash, triggering a tsunami warning and causing mass evacuations. The eruption was so huge that it impacted neighbouring countries and created a shock wave that rippled across the globe.
Damage to the underwater cable that provides Tonga's internet has made communication difficult. This is a rapidly evolving situation and assessments are ongoing, but it is likely that homes and businesses have been destroyed, families displaced and food and water sources contaminated.
Plan International is working with local partners to provide immediate assistance to affected communities – such as water, fuel, food, hygiene and dignity kits and we will also assist in the longer term recovery process. But we need your help to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. Please donate now.
*Note: Any donations we receive over and above what's needed for this emergency will be redirected to our emergency standby fund to allow us to respond quickly and effectively to future humanitarian emergencies. Thank you for your generosity.
